How do neuroscosmetic skincare ingredients act on our brain and our skin?

It’s exciting to see neurocosmetics in the Financial Times this week...but how do they actually act on our skin and brain?

Put simply, when the skin is stressed, dry, or overheated, this is directly correlated to the ageing process!

How can neurocosmetics help?

We’ve picked 3 main ways they can act on the skin (at a cellular level)!

1) ❄️ COOLING - ingredients such a peppermint contain menthol which is clinically proven to activate the cold skin sensors, provide a long-lasting, enhanced, refreshing experience, (normally) without skin irritation

2) 🧘‍♀️ RELAXING (wrinkle-reducing) ingredients such as lavender oil provide a relaxing effect on wrinkles. Clinical tests on 20 volunteers aged between 46 and 59 years proved the anti-wrinkle and smoothing efficacy after 7 days of applying 0.25% or 1% lavender oil, twice daily to, the crow’s feet area!

3) 💆🏼‍♀️STRESS-REDUCING - rose oil inhalation was proven to reduce the following effects of chronic stress: 1) loss of skin hydration, and disruption of skin-barrier function, 2) cortisol (stress) increase in participants. Therefore chronic stress-induced disruption of the skin barrier can be limited or prevented by rose essential oil inhalation, which is possibly through its inhibitory effect on the HPA axis which controls our stress response!
